From humble beginnings, NZ Lure Masters has grown into one of New Zealand’s premier lure fishing competitions. What started in 2016 as a small measure-and-release event at the Stanmore Bay Boating Club — organised by Wayne and supported by Dan — quickly revealed its potential. In just its second year, entries had more than doubled, and the concept resonated strongly with the angling community.

Built on a shared vision for a more sustainable and inclusive style of sport fishing, NZ Lure Masters was officially formed. We set out to provide an alternative to the traditional “catch and kill” competitions by promoting a measure-and-release format that respects and protects our fisheries.

Our focus has always been on accessibility, affordability, and sustainability. By keeping entry fees low and encouraging nationwide participation, we reduce pressure on any one location and create a better experience for anglers and the environment alike. Today, NZ Lure Masters attracts close to 1,000 participants each year — a testament to the passionate fishing community behind it and the growing support for a smarter, more sustainable way to compete.
