What makes NZ Lure Masters sustainable?
Less pressure in one location
Historically, one base fishing competitions have put huge pressure on a particular area or region, which can create a lot of pressure on the fishery during that competition. Lure Masters is New Zealand wide, so it gives the angler the choice to fish their local spot or travel to where ever they want inside of New Zealand. This eases the pressure on the fishery and limits the amount of dead fish weighed for a prize.
Why lures only?
NZ Lure Masters is New Zealand’s Premier Lure only fishing comp. No bait or burley is allowed, lure fishing is generally a lot better for fish mortality with the fish being hooked in the corner of the mouth. This helps with a good release and gives the fish the best chance to swim away unharmed.
Less big fish killed
NZ Lure Masters is a length based competition, this gives the angler the choice to release the fish they catch, giving the bigger fish a better chance to reproduce. We do support the catch and release of bigger fish, however it is the anglers right to fish with in the current legal limits and take a feed home.
